Patreon Unlocked - Deadpool vs Batman Review, K-Pop Demon Hunters, and Drew's Farewell to Duval

Season 10

This episode was originally released on Patreon last month, but now everyone gets to hear it!

This episode (S.F.P. Ep. 33 for those keeping count) was recorded just a few hours before Drew left for Denver! We were inspired by a recent fan mail to get one more recording done before Drew took off (shout-out T Mixx!). In this episode, we talk about everything from K-Pop Demon Hunters, the Deadpool/ Batman crossover, Denver recommendations, and Walt calls in to share some words of wisdom

intro music plays

00:24
Yo, Short Box Nation! Hello again, welcome back, and thanks for pressing play today. If you're brand new, welcome to the show. My name is Badr, and this is the Short Box Podcast, the comic book talk show that brings you the best conversations about your favorite comics with the people who put their blood, sweat, and tears into making them and celebrating them. There's probably no hiding the fact that my voice is barely here right now.  I'm recording this intro one day after an epic

00:52
Monday Night Football game where the Jags beat the Chiefs.  If you follow me on social media, it probably goes without saying that I was at the game  celebrating very hard and very loud for someone that had work the next morning.  But it was so worth it. It was like a movie last night.  I'm also recording this intro  one day before I fly out to New York for New York Comic Con.  Don't ask me how my packing is going.

01:17
Not very well or very far, but it was a necessary trade off to witness the Jags get that W last night. Which brings me to this week's episode that you just pressed play on, speaking of flying and everything.  This episode was originally released on Patreon last month. It was recorded on Drew's last night in Jags, right before he hopped on a flight, a one-way flight to Denver to start a new chapter in his life. It's more than likely his last episode recorded in person with me here in the Short Black Studio.

01:44
Maybe, we'll see if that changes. Maybe he'll come visit in the next month or so. But this one has it all, right? Thanks to a piece of fan-mode that we got from our good friend and listener of the show,  Teamix, big shout out to Teamix,  we covered everything from K-pop Demon Hunters, we talked about the Deadpool Batman crossover, and in this episode we even got Walt, that's right, big homie Walt called in  to share some words of wisdom and send our boy Drew off the proper way.

02:08
So this episode was originally meant for Patreon, but now everyone gets to join in  on bidding Drew a farewell. And if you want to hear more episodes like this, or if you want to hear the other episodes where we talked about  Drew's upcoming move and other topics, there are hundreds  of bonus episodes available to listen to  on patreon.com slash the short box. You hear me talk about Patreon all the time, but that's because it's the best place to support the show by becoming a patron of the show.

02:33
You get to enjoy exclusive perks and rewards like early access to every episode, you commercial free episodes,  and I've even started doing this monthly comic giveaway on the Patreon  as an additional way to say thank you to everyone that supports the show and helps me keep the lights on.  Once again, patreon.com slash the short box,  become a Patroni and have my undying gratitude and obviously all the other perks and rewards I just named. So while you enjoy this episode, I am going to get back to packing and getting ready for New York Comic Con this week.

03:02
Which brings me to one last announcement and reminder. If you'll be at New York Comic Con this week, I invite you to come join me for a live comic podcast show featuring the likes of Chris and Aaron from Oblivion Bar podcast. David Harper from Off Panel will be on this uh live show, as well as Brad and Lisa Gullickson of Comic Book Couples Counseling. In my opinion, those are three of the best comic podcasters out there. And I'm super fortunate enough that we're all doing a live podcast crossover show.

03:31
From New York Comic Con, it's gonna be a lot of fun. We've all come up with individual segments and themes for the show that is taking place on Friday from 12.45 to 1.45 p.m. in Javits Room 1C03. Once again, Friday, 12.45 at Javits Room 1C03. It'll probably be in the programming. Look for live Comic Podcast crossover event. Come on out, I'd love to meet you and say what up to as many fans of the Short Box as I can. And if I don't catch you New York Comic Con this week,

03:58
then you'll be hearing from me in two weeks, all right? I'm definitely taking a break next week, but I have a wonderful interview with Stephanie Williams that I just need to edit and post. That'll be ready for you  in the following week. But in the meantime, take care of yourselves. Go Jags,  and peace everybody. I'll catch you around.  Patrons, welcome to a very special episode of the SFP series, AKA Special Friday Pod, AKA Save It For Pod. AKA. AKA.

04:26
special feelings podcast where we express our special feelings as this possibly could be. No, I keep saying, I keep saying like it's like your last episode, it's not. It's not your last episode. It is not Drew's last episode, but God damn it. We're here to celebrate. action, live action. Live action. After that it's all CGI. Yeah. After that all of Drew's appearances will be CGI. to FaceTime audio.

04:53
So that being said, we're here to celebrate Drew. We're here to uh just hear from Drew.  And mainly, this episode is big time inspired by long time friend of the show.  mean,  there's a Mount Rushmore of short box fans. Fam. Fam. Sorry, I keep saying fans as if like they're only fans of short box fam. I think this person would absolutely be on that list. And that's T-Mix. right. T-Mix,  and here's the thing. We haven't got an email from T-Mix in a minute.

05:21
And I actually hit him up about it. was like, yo T, I'm just making sure everything's good. We miss you. And I feel like T-Mix is sort of like a It's like the only person that raises his hand in class and that one teacher you gotta check on people. I realize you haven't raised your hand and answered a question a little bit. But I feel like T-Mix is kind of like a sage. You can't force the emails. Cause I was like, hey man, we haven't heard from you. You ever send an email a minute? Just, you know, me and Drew were talking about you. We miss you. And I didn't hear nothing back. I was like, you know what? My man's busy. He's got kids. He's got life. He's got a family. But he sent something in today.

05:51
almost as if he knew we needed it. And we needed to hear this. As we're sipping on our summer shandies, by the way, this episode is brought to you by, can never say the name of the brewery, but  Linen Lugals.  You try it. You gotta give it a shot. Linen  Lugals. Linen Lugals. I believe you because you actually believe a work at a bar. But today's episode is brought to you by some summer shandies. If you've never tried the summer shandy or the grapefruit shandy, gotta say.

06:16
These are fucking delicious.  When you brought it up, like when you brought me their first shandy,  like this beer, I was like, you gave me a look like, yeah, like, did you get this from your pickleball class? Like who,  who gave you this? Who introduced you to this? I recently got into summer shandy. I don't know why, you know, I actually, I know why, because it's a great summer beer. is a so good. When I'm grilling those, the summer shandy, the lemon flavor is so fucking refreshing when you've got like 500 degree grill going It's like a brisk, it's like a brisk iced tea.

06:46
And my personality is OCD, which means I lean in all the way. So I really got into summer shandies and I remember handing Drew one last time he came to record and gave me this look of like, when  did you donate your balls to science? Straight up. What the fuck is this? But Drew has since become a fan. Yes. Where he's buying it willingly. And we decided this is going to be a drink of choice. And I think this is an episode that you definitely want to have a little drink of choice because, you we might get emotional.

07:15
And we're here to celebrate. a beer with us. Yeah, have a beer with us. drink. the thing, it doesn't have to be alcohol or a drink. Get some Gatorade or some Propel. I love if you're at work, like put it in that Dunkin' Donuts cup. But back to what I saying, T-Mex sent us an email and I was like, you know what? We got to get on the mic. So even if it's 10 minutes, 15 minutes, I want listeners to know, Drew's literally, we are literally recording this on Friday. It is 9 24 p.m. Drew has a flight to Denver at 7 a.m. tomorrow.

07:45
He should be home being responsible, packing, saying bye to his loved ones. But I give him this to hop on the mics really quick as we finish our beers. Just get an episode out there. Because teammates sent us a fan mail, and I want to read it real quick. He sent it in today. said, it's been too long. I also can't believe I missed sending something in before SFV number 32. By the way, this is SFV episode 33. We did it. Which ties into.

08:09
The clear obscure year by the plane. This is our Expedition 33. And here's the thing, only one other person's gonna know that reference. But god damn it, I stand by clear obscure. We made it. Okay, the email continues, I missed sending something in before SFB episode 32. Maybe you record one last epilogue today. September 26th, guess what teammates, you got your wish buddy. When I first heard Drew was moving, was the same time I learned Ultimate Spider-Man was ending. Dude. I think that's so fucking great.

08:38
uh The same time I heard Drew was moving was the same time I learned Ultimate Spider-Man was ending. Such a sad day. But the journey has been awesome. No regrets. We'll miss hearing y'all in the same studio. All right, it's been a month and haven't heard y'all mention K-Pop. Demon Hunter's Phenomenon is legit good movie. Okay, one more question. What do y'all think about the Deadpool-Batman crossover? Main story was good. Captain America Wonder Woman was fun. Daredevil Green Arrow was great. The rest felt meh.

09:07
and then he signs out in his infamous outro that we love. So much so that it's part of Short Box Lore now because he signs out with the classic. Teamix. All right,  let's break down  this email. Yes. First of all, he's basically comparing to Ultimate Spider-Man. I love it. That's gotta be a huge honor. That is a very huge honor. Are you caught up all the way with Ultimate Spider-Man? Yes, waiting on you. Damn, all the way? All the way. Okay. How, because the last issue I read, they were uh in the jungle.

09:35
running from Craven. Oh, like two years ago when this thing first came out? Oh yeah, okay, cool. So you were there when they first came out. How much more crazy has it been since then? And  you know nothing what's happened? I don't know anything since then. That's where I left off, which might've been like issue 12 or something. You are denying yourself cinema. Like just like absolute  Spider-Man cinema. It's like, oh, this is functional. It's amazing. And it's like, I don't know what Hickman has in store for it, but it's like, man, you...

10:02
in this a lot of amount of time you have made so many interesting choices and moves and characters and combined characters and it's just really nice to see how things have shaped up. Answer me this, who has been your favorite character thus far? And has it changed since you first? Spider-Man? It can't be Spider-Man. I mean, it's like an obvious, right? Tell me why you like this Spider-Man and then tell me your favorite supporting character. I like this Spider-Man because it is generally Hickman writing his home version of Fantastic Four.

10:30
where it's Mary Jane, it's the two,  I forget what both of his kids are called. I wanted to call them Val, but it's not It's like May and Ben. Yeah. It's just a really great dynamic. I really do love the newspaper-like aspect of it. the- uh Ben and J. Jonah. Yeah, Ben and J. Jonah. Like it's the, uh what is that called? The-  The name of their paper? Not the name of their paper. It's like what they're- They're like journalists.  But they're looking up like corruption. What is that?

10:59
Espionage. Espionage, that's what it I like the espionage aspect of that. Cause they're investigating  Oscorp, they're like digging into like places they shouldn't be exposing like- And you know, you- Corruption. Have you read the Christmas issue? Yes. Okay, so you know that that's Venom. Yes, I've gotten that far. Dude, Venom.  Venom is freaking dope because, wait, so have you gotten to the Black Hat yet? ah Black Hat has-

11:24
run into Venom and then she realizes, oh, you're way too young to be Spider-Man, the guy that injured my dad. you know that there's two Spider-Mans running around. That's one thing I love about it. wasn't like Peter's like, no, he lets his son be Spider-Man. So there's two Spider-Mans running around. Oh, that's cool. I like that angle. Very much so. How do you feel about it ending? Do you think it needs to end? Would you rather it end on a high note or do you feel like, hey, there's more to explore here? You want to know what I really want?

11:52
I really would love just a documentary on how this came to be, everything that didn't happen.  But I am happy that it's ending. Did you know that Chips Adarsky originally was supposed to write that's what I wanted to It's like, that's crazy. It's like they went with Chips Adarsky. I don't know what he said or what was said. I think it was just he was busy.  I was on the impression that this was Hickman's book. I thought Hickman was somebody that was like, no, I I think from what I understand, Hickman was the archetype as he always is for the ultimate. He had like, hey, here's what I'm thinking.

12:21
We should get other people to write this. Sort of like the absolute how they went to Scott Snyder was like, hey, help us build the absolute universe.  And no one wants to write Batman. So he was like, all right, well, I guess I'll step up. I think they tried to do Should the dark skill like, hey, will you write Spider-Man? But he was too busy. So I was like, all right, I'll give it a swing.  No pun intended.  I'll take a swing at this. all right,  I'll get caught up. And maybe that'll be the focus of our next episode.  Hopefully, I remember that.  Let me address the other part of his email, which he asks.

12:51
Uh, K-Pop Demon Hunters. Have you watched it at all? Twice. You've watched it? Wait, you've watched it? Yes. Karen has been championing. Yeah, our friend Karen has been championing this movie for a while. And then Zach re-championed it. It doesn't surprise me that Zach is a fan of K-Pop Demon Yeah, because he looks like. up his alley. Because even he kind of rolled his eyes in the sense of like, I was like, you watched it? And he goes, yeah. And he's like, it's actually really good. Like it is the same people that did the Spider-Man movie. What? Yeah.

13:20
Oh, I didn't know that part. It's a sunny pictures.  I have a  it's not that I'm not aware of the phenomenon that is K-pop Demon Hunters. It's just that I don't have enough time and I prioritize other things over  sometimes with the main Zy guys, which I think is my worst attribute as a podcaster. Not to get too deep, but this is the episode to kind of deep.  should I should be on top of mainstream stuff like that. But I'm always into other rabbit holes that it's hard for me to pull myself out to be like, oh, let me watch this thing that everyone's talking about. And I think that's what your strength is.

13:50
You are always willing to give something a shot. And you're always  bouncing around,  looking around for different things to get into. What is it about K-Pop Demon Hunters that you think I would like? The  action animation and how clever it's written. It's really well written. And it's surprising. You go in there with no expectations, and you go in there and you're actually entertained. It's really funny. The voice acting is amazing.  It's on point. It is definitely the same studio that did Spider-Man.

14:20
because it has that  kind of like attitude to it. Yeah. Okay. It is really, really well done. So even if you would like someone like me that's like, it's not that I don't think I like K-pop music.  just don't actively like consciously listen to Okay. So you didn't watch How to Train Your Dragon. Yes, I did. Hold on. Okay. Animated. You watched the live action. I did watch the live action. What was the last animated movie that you watched? Why are you putting me on the spot? uh

14:50
Yeah, I can't recall. You're the problem.

14:54
Technically the last animated movie you watched was How to Train Your Dragon, it's the live-action animated. m

15:02
It really had a set of pipes So yeah, like, okay, well, let's talk about this then. What is your problem with animated movies? It's not that I don't like animated movies. I have you here on record, sir. I'm saying I can't remember. yeah. But here's the thing, when we finish recording, it's gonna come to me and I'm gonna shoot you a text like, I want you to take all that Can you right off now, right off rip, me five animated movies that is not Disney and not Shrek? Into the Spider-Verse.

15:28
Super Mario Brothers, Kanto was on last night. Kanto? Kanto. Isn't that? Okay, is that Disney? I don't know, maybe. Hey, look, this is about you. This is an episode about you. Don't you try to reflect, deflect back on me, okay? I get it. I missed the, I missed the boat. It's not too late. But you like enough to watch it twice. Yeah, I like animated movies.

15:51
I think animated movies are good. You do. Just because you don't. It's not that I don't. I'm going to make that. That's the thing. Yeah. That's how the smear campaign. I'm going to come up Milligan does not like anime, but likes comic books. I'm going to get an email from a Pixar exec like, we really wanted to, you know, invite you guys to get us a tour of the studio, but we understand you don't fuck with animated movies. But Andrew does. So give him like a forward him this email.

16:19
Okay,  I want to address one more thing in his email, which is the question about the Deadpool Batman crossover. Did you read it? No. So you don't fucking love comic books. Wow. Wow. Did you read it? I did.  Oh, did you understand it? I read it in print too. you really didn't like care to read it all. I mean, I know you've got like your whole life, you know,  you're packing up your whole life and all that. So time for comics is questionable.  I am not excited because  Batman and Deadpool to me is just.

16:48
I was the same way. was like, interesting choice to crossover one. was like, all right, Batman. Okay. Safe choice. Then Deadpool. was like, is that really going to work? Let me tell you this much. uh it is a, they make it work and they make it work cause Deadpool is  really funny. Like Zabwells writes some good one-liners  and the jokes are pretty good.  Especially in a long time. Zabwells. And something positive. Zabwells underscore blank something positive, but he makes it work with them.

17:17
And especially with Deadpool and Joker. Like  the whole premise is very,  it is very loony toonsy where it's like, oh, okay. So Batman, so Deadpool gets hired by Joker to hunt down Batman. But then like the twist is like,  huh, it's very like meta because it's Deadpool. So the main story,  the problem is it's just that too short. Like all these stories are too short and it almost feels too much.  It serves its purpose. We're like, Hey, this is just a promo comic. Is it going to be fun? We're not trying to get too serious,  but

17:47
But some,  but they're too short. But to speak to what he's saying, there's a Captain America Wonder Woman story by Chips Adarsky and Terry Dotson. Dude, that one is probably the best one. Really? Terry Dotson brings it with the artwork? Mainly the story. Those stories really dope. That artwork has to probably be. Because it poses the question  of what if Captain America and Wonder Woman dated and what if they were a great match for each other? That's kind of the premise. I won't spoil anything else. Oh, so like a Hollywood couple that everybody ships? But it's so good.

18:16
You're like, oh wow, this  is the Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift. Oh God.  Bro.  Oh my God. I have to show you something offline. Okay. Is it about Travis? No, no, no. So the biggest problem I have with Travis Kelsey is that he fucking annihilates your fantasy football team every goddamn No, It's just like, like you're trying to watch the football game and then they just go to Taylor Swift's freaking reaction every time. Yeah. I mean, they know what they're doing. They know. But it's like, come on, man. I know. I definitely,  last year,

18:46
I was watching a couple of Chiefs game and I was like, this is a greasier, egregious. You're like, okay. But anyways, the cat America, Wonder Woman story in this, uh, very interesting. But ship to Zarsky brings it out of them. So that was really good. Kevin Smith and  Adam Cure do this green arrow daredevil story that is I think very close, like one B of the best story and Kevin's cheating. He's written both of those characters and he, and and he proves it. He's like, Hey, I still got it. And the way that he makes them interact, you're like, Oh, I want more daredevil.

19:15
Green Arrow long form because just it's like, oh, they do kind of have a lot in common, but they're from different worlds.  It almost gives you the green like the Neil Adams, Danny O'Neill, Green Lantern, Green Arrow. But you're like, oh, Daredevil would be a good fill in for that. You know, he's like very like, hey, I've got morals. I got the  whole religious aspect, but I'm  battling for my demons is a good pairing. Did he hit on Black Canary? She does not show up in this. It's just Green Arrow and Daredevil. Fake.

19:43
And then there is a, the Frank Miller Batman Wolverine. I don't think it's the best in there, but Frank Miller,  I read a comment on Reddit. Someone said, Hey, I really fuck with this story because Frank Miller is kind of in his Picasso bag. And I'm like, huh, it's an interesting comparison to Picasso. And you're my art guy. I'm assuming Picasso, when he got older, that his art style drastically changed. I want to say, yeah, like, I mean, a lot of these artists, they do like short

20:13
Shorthand form and stuff again,  but if he isn't as Picasso face then like I really do love that um That aspect but he feels to me it feels like he I kind of like that he's doubling down on this where he's like You know, it's like it's not like Frank Miller's I don't know if he's actively like hey, let me get a story in there It feels like they're reaching out to him because it's like, you know, that's Frank Miller You know, it's like this I think his art style now will be appreciated later and it's like hey, let us let our

20:42
comic legends age with grace. His variants lately have been heavily criticized. Some of them are hit or miss. are fire. Some of them are hit or miss, but some are root. Like that Moon Knight one is one of my favorites. There's a new one, there's a Loki one. The Loki one's probably one of my favorite ones. Yeah, it's like, hey, he's just like any other artist. He's not gonna have, everything's not going to be amazing. Dude, this dude can make five lines and sell it for 10 grand. That's where he's at right now. That's the same thing with, who's the one person that's JRJR?

21:09
Oh, John and Ruth Virginia. Dude, his art has changed drastically. It has.  And you know, it may not be for you, but I think we have to, I think it's okay that we have aging, you know, like let these comic legends age  and like just respect that,  they have put their body, their hands, their eyes, their back, their neck, all of that. Think about how much pain in like just wear and tear. It's like, yo, he's not a spring chicken no more, but he's still around and doing a weekly or a monthly, bi-monthly sometimes. How many pages was this Wolverine story?

21:39
It was like, I think it was like less than four pages. that's, that's, that's another thing that's crazy too, to tell a story in four pages. Yeah. I mean, it's not like the most  detailed grandiose story, but it works. And that's my only thing is I, it is kind of like, huh, I wish this was a longer effort. Cause it almost feels kind of like just so just too much of a tease. You're like, all right. Did we discuss like our team ups and like what we would have?  I think we might've, but we also don't have a lot of time. Cause I want to get you home in time.

22:04
But with that being said, that does address all of T-Mix's point in that email. So yo T-Mix, we love you bro. Thank you so much for that fan mail. I appreciate it. Obviously inspired us to get on the mics. Drew, I want to talk about this other comic series I'm reading, but I feel almost remiss by not just asking the very obvious and directly. Have I been crying? Yes, I have been crying a lot. How are you feeling with the impending?

22:31
I mean the move like is it's less than 12 hours away. Oh, oh you're like when you put it that way How am I feeling dude? It's good. Like I was kind of nervous but then as soon as shaggy called me and we had that like Like he called me and he's like, He's excited for you to go bro. He's like, yo, he's like no way. He's like I got a spot for you You got your own drawer like

22:54
He's like, I have the next thing. He's been accommodating as fuck. Yeah. He's like, I'm going to be the next three days off. I'm going to have, we're going to go see some stuff. He's like, we're going to have a good time. So it's, it's really cool. And then he, but then it was a fight too. Cause he's like, he's like, all right, man, I'm going to be hanging out with you the next three days. But after that you on your own. Now you're just a roomie. The novelty wears off. Yeah. He's like, yeah. And I think it's as interesting that, you know, it's almost like a scale.

23:21
Right? Where it's like on one side, you've got your family and friends here who are like,  you know, wishing you well, like, you know, feeling, getting their emotions, you know, your walk, all these walk down memory lanes.  And I do want to reiterate, it's not like you, I have to keep reminding yourself, like, Hey, Drew's not leaving to another country, another planet. He is going to be two  hours behind, which by the way, I think we got it wrong. You said last episode you're three hours behind and then we realized, Hey, you're only two. Two? Oh, two hours. You're only two hours. That's not bad.

23:50
Yeah. Mountain DT Mountain time. Okay. So, but  back to my analogy, you've got all these people here, you know, like sad, but then at the same time it's like, but Shaggy's on the other side of the scale with like excitement of like embracing like, Hey, yo, welcome. I'm excited to like see you. that I'm going to know at least one person there. So, okay.  Uh, uh I guess just for the listeners,  um, I'm going to ask them if they have any recommendations for Denver. I know, you know, I've been twice, I've got some recommendations for you, but if anyone,

24:20
Has everyone been to Denver and has any recommendation for our guy Drew? Please send me an email, text, fan mail, all that good stuff. We wanna hear that. But when you land, what are your top three priorities? What are you looking forward to doing the most or what are you hoping to like, hey, I gotta  lock this shit in now? Dude, I hope Shaggy takes me to a dope breakfast spot. Like, I really wanna You absolutely should find a good breakfast I need to find a good breakfast spot. Preferably.

24:45
with  a six year old lady working there who has got stories for days  and she lets you smoke inside because she sometimes likes to smoke a little too. And she'll go ahead and uh she'll go ahead, you'll ask for an order of two eggs, but sometimes she goes and slides a little third one for you. I like that. Gives you an extra piece of toast.  Knows you by name.  Gives you all the recommendations. This place better exist. uh Her name is Mary. Okay. Cool. Ask her about her daughter, but don't ask her about her son.

25:14
Okay, so fine, good eats. It's 40 degrees right now. In Denver? In Denver right now it's 40 degrees.  put I'm actually more worried if you'll survive the climate change. Denver is cold and dry. Like Drew, is stupid dry.  the...  Jackie's already told me he's... You'll feel it in your knuckles, you'll feel it in your nose. You'll always... I knew I was always thirsty. I'm like, God damn, I'm thirsty. And not just like that kind of thirsty. I'm barged.

25:44
Well, then I get it then because like Shaggy told me he's like, bro, it'll be a lotion and water. Yeah, it'll be a culture. Okay. So find some good places to eat. What else is on the priority? Drop all my stuff down and then  Shaggy is going to take me around.  like, I want to see what Shaggy's version  of,  um,  Colorado. I want to see like what he's like, okay, we do this, we do this.  Cause I kind of want to get the lay of the land.  I'm the most excited about the train.

26:09
riding this public transportation. I'm so freaking excited about it if I can just like, if I don't need a car and I can just get, get away with just basically being on the train, like fuck yeah, give me that. Like I just need a charge phone, headphones, a good book. I'm all right. If I may jump in and give you some things I think know as, as a lifelong friend, someone that's known you, I don't even know how long I mean, longer than we've been this podcast. I think knowing you definitely find you this breakfast spot.

26:38
Find you a dope coffee spot to post up at. I think you're also going to need to find you a, uh, like a used bookstore. You loved you some used bookstores. Find you the fucking nearest museum or the library to the library. You're a library guy. Obviously, you know, I, you know, I'm already putting, I already know it's like, Hey, Drew's going to find him a job easy. He's going to take care of that stuff. But knowing you, like, I think you're a coffee shop dude. You're someone that likes to find community in places, especially places that like, you know,

27:07
comic shop, coffee shop, library, those type of places. Oh, and go fucking hike! You gotta partake in the, and you know what saying? It's like, you're leaving palm trees and beach in hot ass weather for, you know, mountains, trails, hike. REI, Pro Subaru's. Homemade granola. I'm gonna learn how to start a fire with flint and a can-do attitude. There we go, there we go.

27:35
I'm excited and I want to know what the people are like the people that are from there like what type of attitude they have because like they're really being into sports They have all sports teams. They have  all Denver Broncos. They have the what else they got the  ever sports teams  Oh, have you been to the visit Denver website the mile high city? You absolutely should go to  mile high one day get you a nice little little doobie Mile high they got the Colorado Rockies  Colorado Averland Denver Nuggets

28:04
Yeah, that's what is the nuggets. Colorado Mammoth, the Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rockies. Oh, they got the Coors Field. They have everything. They have Red Rocks. I'm just saying they have like, they have, and they're like, they're big into basketball. That's what saying. So like the social aspect is going to be really good. entertainment aspect. Yeah. I hope they have good flea markets. I want to see what their pawnshops All right. Let me get real serious real quick. are you hoping? Flea markets are serious. What are you hoping? Where the culture is. On an emotional personality level that you hope to get out of Denver.

28:34
Let's say that uh when I come visit you, I want to be able to say, well, Drew's different in this positive way. What is one positive change you hope to get out of this move?  Oh, I'm no longer 198 pounds. Okay.  I'm healthy. Like you're like, oh wow, like a solid 175. Oh, can uh see your chin. That beard's been hiding a lot, you fuck. So fitness is high on your thing. Yeah, fitness. By the time you visit, I would hope to like know how to move around the city.

29:04
I think man, I think Colorado is a good look. As someone that's been there twice, literally proposed to his wife in Denver. It's a beautiful time. It's very quaint. It's very relaxed. It's very chill. The people there are really friendly, at least in my experience. And I friendly believe, you know, I joked about everyone being high, but I think there is something to be said about a city that is so liberal like Denver, where everything's a little more chill and everyone's like, I don't know. That's a vibe I got. Chill and humble. Humility. I want to see what the neighbor, like if it's neighborly.

29:34
what the social standings is in the sense of like, nah, like we're all pretty positive thinking. Like there's no this, that and the third. Sure. It ain't going to be like, it ain't going be like some instances that we've experienced here in the South, you know. Might be putting handcuffs. mean, maybe I'll put them in handcuffs, but. Okay. I think with that being said, there's one more thing I want to do very quickly so that way we can get you home. Uh, and I want, I want to, uh, phone a friend real quick. Let me see if they'll pick up.

30:05
There goes my surprise. Hold let me try one more time. So this is what I'm gonna sound like. uh Well, real quick, Walter Gant, very quickly, you are on the Short Bikes podcast, good sir. Don't say anything that will incriminate you. I wanted to give you a call because I'm recording here with Drew. He has literally got a flight to Denver.

30:29
in about less than 12 hours, we were like, hey, let's get on the pod. That man's from Denver. Let's get on the pod one more time. And I want to admit to you real quick, well, you win the long game. I'm onto your game, bro. I know that you have been working with the city of Denver to recruit Drew and God damn it, took you a couple of years, but you made it happen. was not working on the city of Denver to recruit Drew. Drew is more of a southern boy, so he would be better off somewhere in Texas.

30:55
Don't give him that idea. anyways, yeah, cause you called me. was on the phone with my homeboy talking about some fantasy football shit. That's so like, well, were you talking to him about fantasy football and did you have a couple of whiskey in your hand? Well, I was there a couple of whiskey in my hand. I know. I'm on my drinking and sweating in, I don't know, an 80 degree night.

31:24
in the fucking September, so know, Florida livin'. Damn right. Well, and that's exactly why I called. I was like, there's a high chance he's awake, but probably had a couple of drinks already, but I wanted to call you because it wouldn't feel right not giving you a chance to say any parting word. And here's the thing, it's not like we won't ever talk to Drew, but any parting words for Drew on the pod. I'll see Drew, if you look there, put it like this. Drew, if you can make it a year, I'ma probably see you twice.

31:53
Damn, alright. Bet. Nice, were just that, Bars. That's Whoa. oh

32:21
Well, they rub it in guys. Well, this is real. Every year I go home and I go by like about three hundred dollars worth of meat. Yo, pause. uh I was just about to pause. I think this might be a possible.  Yeah, that's the hundred percent of pause moment. But I go buy a bunch of fucking food and we grill out and we mean all my friends  who I grew up with hang out.

32:51
Oh, I don't see each other no more because all of us live in different places and all this shit. Dang, that's not fair. I will literally come up for that because now it's like I won't, you know, consider Drew is still out there. I feel like that'd be that'd be mandatory. Drew isn't out there between Father's Day and no later than August. It always depends on what the fuck Marie is doing. Yeah. Or July  or between um June and July. Because this year I had to go up there for my birthday  and that was fine.

33:20
was home for my birthday, but Maureen kinda fucked up my travel schedule. Well, okay, okay, real quick, real quick. I just wanna ask you one last question for Drew. If there's one thing- We can keep going, we can keep going. Here's the thing, we don't. Because Drew has to go home and finish packing. yeah, yeah. He literally has to go home Are you not done packing? No, I came here to hang out- did expect, Drew? came here to say goodbye, and I thought it was like, let's record real quick. Okay, which by the way, alright, well, in closing.

33:48
If Drew has if you could recommend one thing for Drew to do that he has to do in Denver while he's there that you know that he might like, what would it be? Oh, I guess go to my high comments. OK, all right. Yeah, that's exactly what doing. How come it's still exist? And that's like a whole lot of common warehouse. It is. It's pretty. It's a nasty word. So you got that one. And then I would say go to Chubbies Chubbies. What is that?

34:17
That is a burrito spot.  Old school burrito spot. So go to Chubbies. So you got Chubbies is one thing you need to do. um Just go walk down 16th Street Mall. um You can do 16th Street Mall.  What else can I recommend? off general principles of law. Because difference changed so much since I've lived there. Because I've not lived home technically in...

34:45
since 2005, so I've not lived in Denver in Damn, okay, so it's been a minute. Yeah, so I go home and it changes all the time, because a city has grown so much. So now you're going to a place that gets everything. Damn. So the other thing you need to know is just no Colfax Avenue. There's a lot of venues on Colfax,  as far as like live concerts and all that type of shit. But there's also a lot of venues  on Broadway now. There's more venues on Broadway.

35:13
You know Broadway, you need to know Colfax. Colfax, Broadway. Colfax and Broadway. You those places are where a lot of the venues are or used to be at. And I know that like House of Blues is on Colfax and Colfax is like the longest street in America. You can take Colfax from from. think Colfax is part of Ken, if I'm being honest. So you can basically that's one of them. You can take it from the end of the country to the other end of the country. Oh, shit.

35:42
Well, this was a better response than I could have asked for. Unfortunately, we are short on time, bro, but we just wanted to call you and show you some love and obviously a chance to say bye to Drew. Yo, Drew, I love you. Love you. And you can call me anytime you need to. And like I said, I'll be home in January and I'm gonna have a little kick it session at my homeboys crib in January. We'll see how you working or what not. All right, bet. You may not be able to make it because it's gonna be like on a Friday night.

36:11
And if you stick it in the same lane that you stick it in, then you can't really get out of it. Right, Word. I appreciate you all. But, my brother, I love you and thank you for everything. No, I appreciate you. one of the best people I've met. Damn, that's beautiful. Well, we love you, bro. And I want you to do good. Thanks, I'm okay, word. I gotta go back on the ball to a different nigga now. That's the best line ever. All right, well, we'll talk later.

36:38
Okay, and I think with that being said, Pat won't be any better than that. With that being said, patrons, we love you. Big shout out to Team X with the fan mail. And I think we can unanimously agree that we wish our boy Drew the best in his big move. Nothing but love for him. This won't be the last time you hear from him.
